Addiction

Despite popular belief, addiction is a disease involving the continued use of a substance (i.e., alcohol, drugs, sex, porn, gambling) regardless of serious substance-related consequences such as loss of control over use, health implications, or adverse social implications.

Signs of Addiction:

  • Loss of control over substance

  • Having cravings (i.e., strong desire to use substance)

  • Building tolerance (i.e., needing more of substance to achieve desired affect)

  • Withdrawal effects

  • Physical or psychological impairments caused by continuous use

  • Not fulfilling major obligations at home, work or school

Is everything all that it seems? What if what we thought to be true about addiction was actually wrong…?
